Congratulations to very proud parents Dani and Owain!
Baby Ethan Matthews was born on Sunday morning 3rd May (an Oz Ironman baby!) weighing 8 lb 14oz. Dani and Ethan are both doing really well and are now settled back at home to begin their lives as a family of three! We are so very excited about what lies ahead for this amazing family and are looking forward to being part of the journey!

Congratulations also to our dynamic duo in WA Prue and Tom who have just announced their engagement!  Wishing you both many years of happy times together!

Great work Coach Lew!

Energy Link Coaches education:

Congratulations to Coach Lew Hartley who has been excepted into the Triathlon Australia level 2 Coaching Course to be run at the AIS in Canberra next weekend. We have no doubt that Lew will come back beaming with knowledge and that the Energy Link team will benefit from a weekend of great coaching education.

De-briefing your race - the key to racing to your absolute best!  By Coach Chris.

We have already received some fantastic post Iornman de-briefing that will no doubt assist individuals and coaches in preparing and building on results. There are a few crucial areas besides the obvious physical preparation that I believe are needed to help an athlete to race to the best of their ability.  These areas are:

1)  Starting with a race plan.
2) Getting into the zone on race day and executing that plan.
3) Understanding what it is that is going to drive you and keep you going no matter what.
4) Analysing your race.

In my opinion, the race de-brief should not be about the splits, times or data as much as it is an opportunity to tell your story and more often than not your story will back up your times, split and data info. You should analyse each area of your race coming up with positives and negatives and it is also important to understand the positive and negative decisions you made throughout your race and how these decisions may have effected you and your race.  Look into each of the following areas separately: days leading up to your race, race morning, swim, bike and run, transitions, post race. Coming up with solutions is an important part of the de-brief and this can be done individually as well as with your coach.

If you think looking over a de-brief example will help you with please let us know. Happy De-briefing!

More team results:

Daegu OD:  Thank you to Geoff in Korea for his race report and insight into racing in Korea.

As you are finishing the season with Ironman OZ we are kicking thing off over here in Korea. We had our first hit out on the weekend with an Olympic distance race in Daegu we arrived on the Saturday with a pleasant 28 degrees only to wake up on Sunday to rain but thats racing.
The swim was quite an event with the all Korean warm up but being the second last group to start made for heavy weather as it was a two lap 750m swim so we had to navigate around and over the top of the rest of the field so I came out of the water in 28 min which I wasn't to fuss about still in the top 20% after a late start. The bike was quite wet but incident fee rode a 1:12 which wasn't great but I was happy with the time as I didn't ride with a computer. The run was on a 2km loop  wet and muddy so I got some blister very early in the run but was able to run 43:58 which I was happy with considering all the long slow running I have been doing. All in all happy with the first hard hit out for along time I have a half coming up in a month so looking forward to that as I feel things are starting to fall into place. Cheers Geoff

Busselton 70.3:

While our Port Ironman athletes were preparing to race there was some solid racing going on in WA with Energy Link athletes Hannah, Prue and Tom all racing well to finish in the following times:
Hannah: 4:46:57 and 4th in AG.             29:17/2:33:52/1:39:31
Prue 4:48:58 and 5th in AG.                                    28:35/2:32:44/1:43:52 (PB)
Tom 4:55:59 and 44th in AG.                                    34:07/2:29:55/1:46:59 (PB)

Iornman Oz Port Macquarie:

Port Ironman was another fantastic day of racing and a tough day for some (Ironman can do that!) The conditions leading up to the race were wet, wet and wet but on race day conditions were almost perfect apart form the chocolate coloured water! Blue skies , part cloud and a slight shower on the run.
Congratulations to everyone who raced - it is always great to experience the highs and tough to see the lows but as always, or team stayed strong and finished smiling.  I would like to make a special mention of Irene Hunt who worked incredibly hard to make it to her first Ironman start line and unfortunately suffered from severe cramps and a possible burst cyst while riding the bike and was taken off the course on the gas! We hope you are feeling better Irene and have no doubt you will be back stronger than ever!
